It's been a while but so glad to finish, "Ferry Lights"  an acrylic painting on 16 x 20 canvas.

 A few years back i painted a triptych of a Japanese chrysanthemum, I titled it Eastern Sunrise and it comprised 3 12 x 24" panels.  After it sold I used  that same size triptych layout to create, The Butterfly Effect.  The beautiful sky was from a photo I took when I was in Northern Ireland.  And then I added the butterflies.  One small gesture can create a huge effect,  make it a good one.

 The Butterfly effect In chaos theory, the butterfly effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in which a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state. The final answer, look it up.

 A Good friend lent me a photo she took of the sunset from her home.  I just knew it needed some birds.  I had just been up in the Skagit Vallery north of here and seen some of the hundreds of Tundra Swans the come there every spring.  I decided it definitely needed swans.  They make so much honking sound I decided to title it, Trumpeters.  Acrylic on 15 x 30 canvas.  It has been SOLD

 I was invited to a plein aire gathering where we met and painted out doors.  During that time the sky put on an amazing show, a sun dog with a double rainbow.  Honest it looked just like this.

I started this with a pale blue background and when I painted the leaves in water color of course it shown throught.  I decided it looked like leaves in a puddle for painted the cracked ice with acrylic and titled it

The Light Breaks Through , mixed media on 16 x 20 canvas. 

 Going through saved images I came up on this young man I met in Oklahoma when I was granted the honor of dancing the circle.  He was waiting his turn for the women to finish.

He is now left my studio and is living in another home.  He has been SOLD.

Catching Up in 2022

 It's been a while so I guess it's time to play a little catch up.  

There have been a few things since the tree frog.  Several using a wonderful piece of rice paper I found in Port Townsend.Sunset Pond Reflections  on 12 v 24 canvas and On Golden Pond  a 16 x 20  collage.

 When I walked out the greenhouse early one April day I was greeting by this lovely little creature hiding in the lettuce.  Of course I know immediately I had to paint him, but finding a name was hard.  I asked on face book and received several very good suggestions.  I wrote back to everyone trying to use most of the names that had been suggested.

If you listen carefully you can hear the head gardener, Clora Phil singing , “It's Not Easy Being Green”, while waiting for a fly to come by. As I say, “ time flies when you're having fun”, but Clora says, “times fun when you’re having flies “.

Watching all the fires this summer,  so sad, so many acres ruined.  Between climate change and man they just continue to get worse. 

Color Exploding Bouquet

Last week my friend Barbara came over to social distance on my back porch.  OK to drink some wine, but she brought me this huge beautiful bouquet of alstroemeria from her garden.  The colors were just unbelievably vilush and vivid.  I knew it needed to be painted, but I wanted to express the explosion of color that i was seeing and knew it couldn't be just realistic,  So again I tried to combine the world of realizme with abstraction.

Still bored and playing with an old stencil I found and some interesting tissue paper.  Where else would you find leaves like these?

Daisy Dog

Oh, my gosh in the cover of the studio is another poured acrylic painting.  What could I do with it?
Maybe I will do a negative shape painting.  And so Daisy Dog, a greyhound of course.

Lonely Lady

Sitting on the back porch alone and wondering what to paint I glanced over at a pot of leaves and realized it had bloomed.  It was one single white calla lily. Not sure if the it was the lily or me who was lonely.  During covid lockdown you can feel very alone.

Iris Sisters

We finally loosened up a little and met in gardens with social distancing.  Also was a BYO beverage.  Somethings coffee, iced coffee, wine.  Whatever.  These 3 iris were each in a different friends garden, but all of the same genius.  Hence the name.

Under the Sea

Being bored again and finding a poured acrylic background canvas looked for something to paint on it and decided it looked like it was underwater.
I added a large moon snail shell and a small sea horse.
