Autumn Breezes

Autumn Breezes was in the juried  show at the Schack Art Center in Everett through out July and August.

The Art Center is run by the  Arts Council of Snohomish.

Hopefully Autumn Breezes conveys the feeling of driving though upper New England on a fall day when there is a slight breeze and the gorgeous multicolored leaves are fluttering down.  As they drifted in front of our car windshield I wondered if anyone ever got overdose on color.

Heron in the Sunset

It's still cool here and we're hoping along with this heron the clouds will clear and the sunset will be beautiful. Full of warm colors.

Whidbey Reflections

In Whidbey Reflections a heron stands in a beach  puddle that reflects the overhead clouds. Stylized tree branches washed up from winter storms fill the beach and the heron looks out over Puget Sound.  The small collaged shells were actually gathered from a Whidbey beach.  Whidbey Reflections was painted for the Artists of South Whidbey 2011 Show by the same name.

Jardins sous la pluie 1 & 2

Jardin sous la pluie (Gardens in the Rain) is a tribute to both the piano piece by Claude Debussy and to all my friends who are currently involved in the encaustic revolution.  Having several acrylic gels on hand I wanted to see if the same effect could be derived  from gels as with  the use of wax.  
I wanted the rain to convey the feeling of a warm summer shower with the light shinning behind thus giving jewel tone effect to the  flora in the foreground.

Room with a View-the Regatta

Room with a View was inspired by a segment on the televised Sunday Morning show.   It discussed the  Metropolitan Museum of Art’s April 2011 exhibit of the same name and featured about 42 Northern European artists of the 19th century. I was intrigued with the concept and always remembered staying at a friends house and waking up to a lovely seaside vista out the window.  I begin with the window view, then added the room and lastly collaged the curtain to add a feed of the cool ocean breeze coming through the window.
