Painting on wood

I'm trying something new.  Painting on wood and letting the grain show through as the background.
Interesting process. Untitled on 9 x 12 on Birch cradles.  Must remember to paint varnish the same direction as the wood grain.
The orchids are on 14 x 11 wood panels.  These are the last of the first group.  At the moment I'm choosing this frame.  Of course, I may always change my mind before I get it to the gallery.

New Cards at the Schack Art Center

Here are my New Cards now available at the Schack Art Center in Everett.
Of course if you're on Whidbey you can always find them at Artworks Gallery in Greenbank.
Thought the birds would be nice for spring.

Golden Rain

After living through last month of January in the NorthWest there is no way I could leave out the rain,  I think it has fallen at sometime every day.
I did add a hope of spring with the yellow iris, wishing for the warm yellow rays of the sun.

Layout of Gallery Wall

No theme, but on a wall large enough to hang both the diptych, Japanese Anemone and the triptych, Eastern Sunrise.  Showing "The Girls" for the 1st time: One of the Girls, Which came First, & The Other Girl.  Upper left, Wings of Night, is from the Legend of the Raven book and upper right is showing for the first time, Warm Whidbey Winds.

Spotty Sprinkles on Mutiny Bay

Still working on it.
Working on something old from 2017
So for the 1st painting of 2018 I give you
Sunset on Mutiny Bay subtitled
Feeding time.
Last sky was rather bland.
Not any more.  Love the blue and
gold skies of the NW.

The Falls

I have been working on an experimental mixed media piece.
We have had copious amounts of rain in the past few weeks so I guess this was hiding in my subconscious.
As it is quite textured it is mounted and recessed in a deep frame.

Samhain Moon

I found a wonderful printed paper at Dick Blick and knew I wanted to make tall trees.  The lightness of the paper dictated the trees be in the moonlight.
