Wolf in the Woods

I just couldn't stop playing with acrylic pours. The background pour was done first.  Then when it was dry I  painted the negative space leaving the silhouette .

Hummingbird III

Playing with the new acrylic pours.  Had a fun messy time making the background and liked adding the realistic silhouette of the bird and branch on top.                                                                     Hummingbird III                           Acrylic on 11 x 14 Canvas

Glenbeg House.

Loved where we stayed in Ireland last summer.  Glenbeg House, a fortified Jacobean Manor House in Ballyduff near Lismore.  I took an early morning walk with my coffee and as I turned around to come back I saw these wonderful shadows on the lane.

Heap of sheep

There are a lot,  I mean really a lot of sheep in Ireland.
This work is inspired by a cross between the a beautiful sunny day on the Aaron Islands and Irelands sheep population..But it could be most anywhere in Western Ireland where you find all the stone walls.
A mixed media piece in acrylic it includes rice paper bodies and faces from a shopping bag.

Giant's Causeway

The Giant's Causeway
in Northern Ireland
Not sure I was really going to climb it down to the very end, you have to plan several steps ahead where your feet are going,  but it was well worth it to get this view.
Think this frame is going to be just right.

Acrylic on 18 x 24 Canvas

New Work

Found a little Swallowtail lying in the garden the other day and tried to decide how I could incorporate it's beauty in a piece of art. The Iris is painted from a photo taken in a friends garden.  The butterfly wings are real.
Coated in gel medium to preserve them and carefully collaged onto the painting.

Courtyard at the Watcom

Had a wonderful day visiting the Watcom Museum in Bellingham, WA . It seems there are 2 buildings, the historic City Hall and the much  newer Lightcatcher.  As we were leaving the sun coming through cast these great shadows caughing my eye.  I also was enamored with the fanciful bird sculpture sent in the center of the courtyard.

Courtyard at MoMA

Another in the NY series.
Was thinking it was the Whitney, which I love very much, but checking my references I see it was the Museum of Modern Art.

Foyer at the Mansion

While in Glen cove, L.I. last fall we stayed in one of the 5 Mansions that Pratt built for his sone. This one had been turned into a hotel.

Desoris Island, just a little North was called Morgan's Island when he lived there. Glen Cove is also home to the Woolworth Mansion and the now closed Russian Embassy.

Foyer at the Mansion
Acrylic
20 x 16 canvas

I'm opting for the wider frame it seems to add a feeling of depth.
This is the 3rd in the New York series.

Homage to Kusama

Playing with circles and painting tulips for the start of spring I decided it was still lacking. So something I've had in my mind to do ever since I saw the Yayoi Kusama exhibit.  Paint Polka Dots.  It took 2 whole afternoons, but I think it helped.  Anyway, it was fun.

Interval

Next in the series of NY paintings,
You may recognize this as Lincoln Center.
I named it Interval for several reason.
1. it's a great musical term for the distance between 2 pitches.
2. Is a break in the performance, i,e, short intermission

Using the figures I was also poking fun at the activity of those standing around totally engrossed with their tiny phone screens immediately  after coming out of a larger than life Metropolitan Opera production.

Sunrise on a Cloudy Day

So many times I'm really in search of a name for my painting, but this time in the middle of working it suddenly came to me that it should be called Sunrise on a Cloudy Day.  So I added the sun.
Acrylic and gold pen on 20 x 16 canvas.
Note the revision above.  It needed an anchor to keep it from floating.

Flight to the sun

Playing on a rainy day.  I had found a pair of wood panels 11 x 8 with carved filigree edges so I played indoors and created something reminiscent of my summer garden.  I played with gold leaf, glitter, iridescent paint, and metallic gold pen.  It was fun.

Painting on wood

I'm trying something new.  Painting on wood and letting the grain show through as the background.
Interesting process. Untitled on 9 x 12 on Birch cradles.  Must remember to paint varnish the same direction as the wood grain.
The orchids are on 14 x 11 wood panels.  These are the last of the first group.  At the moment I'm choosing this frame.  Of course, I may always change my mind before I get it to the gallery.

Thought the birds would be nice for spring.

Golden Rain

After living through last month of January in the NorthWest there is no way I could leave out the rain,  I think it has fallen at sometime every day.
I did add a hope of spring with the yellow iris, wishing for the warm yellow rays of the sun.
